Baer’s Furniture Reviews: Creating the Best Customer Experience

Customers will always remember if your customer service is really great. And they’ll tell their friends, who will tell their friends, and so on, and so on… you get the picture. And today’s savvy customers expect the best when they enter a Baer’s Furniture showroom: the best brands, the best prices, and the best customer service. It’s all a part of creating the best customer experience, a key component of Baer’s Furniture’s successful business strategy.

Baer's Furntiure elegant dining room furniture

The customer experience at Baer’s Furniture is pleasant from beginning to end, as Lorraine Bobel found out first hand.

“… On entering Baer’s we were greeted by Taylor who was very pleasant and encouraged us to browse and was there to answer questions for us without being overbearing.” Bobel explained “… Taylor negotiated a sale price for us.” Bobel was even more impressed by the quick and efficient delivery of her furniture “… delivered in great condition plus the delivery men were fast and efficient. …” This is how you create relationships that turn into repeat business. “We were very pleased with the store's selection and especially with Taylor's professionalism and are looking forward to doing business with him and Baers Furniture in the future.”

Customer Experience Is More Than a Buzzword at Baer’s Furniture

Customer service has become almost another arm of a business’ marketing department. Why? Because sales associates, customer service reps, and in the case of Baer’s, in-house interior designers are the face of the company in the eyes of the consumer. Great selection and great prices will only get you so far, top-notch customer service will take you the rest of the way. At Baer’s, the job isn’t over once the sale is completed, it is just beginning.

As Trevor Persaud remarked “Very good selection of furniture with lots of custom options. … Lisa is a great sales associate before and after the transaction.”

Read Trevor Persaud’s full review here.

Everything about a company reflects on everything else. Once the furniture has been purchased and ordered, it still needs to be delivered. And at Baer’s, customer service extends to furniture delivery, as Joyce Gagnon found.

“The driver and his assistant were right on time, very courteous, careful and pleasant.”

Read more of Joyce Gagnon’s review here.

How a company handles a mishap can make all the difference, as Curtis and Barbara Powers found.

"My experience with the salesman, Darryl Lewis, was great! The delivery men were great too...But, the piece was damaged.” However, how a business handles these issues is a part of the customer experience that can be turned around. The Powers spoke with customer care and got fast and courteous results. “They are reserving me a replacement … So far, I’m impressed and will recommend Baer’s.”

How Often Should You Buy New Furniture?

You know when to replace your milk or change your oil, but how do you know when to replace the furniture in your home? It is sometimes difficult to decide when to replace that old “comfortable chair” that isn’t really all that comfortable anymore.

While they are not as obvious as the ones you find on your groceries, your accessories and furniture also have expiration dates. However, few people know what they are. Most people think that furniture pieces should last 20 years or more. Below are some tips for when to buy new furniture.

Is It Broken or Worn Out?

This seems obvious, but how many people do you know who are still living with furniture that is past its prime? If your dining room table has broken recently, it is time to replace it. You can repurpose the chairs if you like them. Or vice versa, if you find that you have broken chairs over the years, you can keep your table and either replace all the chairs, or just a few of them with new chairs that go with your style.

For living room chairs and sofas, consider whether or not the cushions are flattening. Are you sinking into it? Is the upholstery worn? All these are reasons to consider replacing these items. On average, you should expect to replace your sofa every 7-15 years, depending on wear and tear.

It’s time to replace your mattress if you are waking up tired, achy, and sore; if it has lumps, bumps, or is sagging; if you are sleeping on the couch because it is more comfortable; and if you don’t remember the last time you bought a new mattress. Mattresses have a lifespan of about 7 years. A new mattress not only improves how you sleep at night, it improves your quality of life.

Are You Redecorating a Room?

Are you changing your guest room into a home office, or vice versa? This is a clear-cut case of needing something new. You may have some pieces already in mind for the spare room, but chances are you don’t have a spare bed or desk with an office chair hanging around. Take into consideration what you already have, and choose new furniture that goes with the style. If your guest room and office are doing double duty, be sure to choose simple furniture that doesn’t crowd the space.

Quality furniture can last a long time, but you can still refresh your décor by changing out accessories such as pillows, rugs, and tablescapes. Or add a small accent table. If you have a large art collection, you can move the pieces to different places in your home. A Baer's Furniture design professional can help you make minor changes that will have a big impact on your home's decor.

Everything has a lifespan and furniture is not exempt from this. Usage, children, and pets can take a toll on the pieces you use every day. There comes a time when it is best to let it go… and go shopping.

What's Your Bar Stool Style?

What was once a simple wooden stool has evolved into a versatile seating option that adds character, texture, and color to your bar or kitchen design. Choosing one that fits your style and space can be more of a challenge than you would expect, after all, it’s just a stool, right? When you first start out to find the perfect bar stool you may realize that there really are so many things to consider: material, height, back or backless, upholstered or not, swivel or stationary … the list goes on. Choosing one that perfectly fits your design and space can be difficult, so below are some tips for determining your bar stool style.

Tommy bahama bar stool at Baer's Furniture

Find Your Height

The very last thing you want is to have a stool that causes you to cram your legs up under the table. It’s just uncomfortable. The most common sizes available are counter height, bar height, table height, and extra tall. Choosing the right height will determine whether or not you and your guests will have enough legroom to sit comfortably. The goal is to have anywhere from 9 to 13 inches between the top of the stool’s seat and the bottom of the counter top.

Choose Your Style

Take a look around your bar or kitchen and determine if you want your new bar stools to blend in or stand out with the décor – color, style, or materials – already used in the space. Also, think about function. If the bar stools will be placed next to a kitchen island or in a narrow hallway, backless is a good choice. This gives you the option to tuck them out of the way. If you bar stools are the focal point of your eating space or kitchen, choose easy to clean surfaces such as wood, metal, leather, or even microfiber. The Kingstown Dunkirk Swivel bar stool is a laid-back, stylish bar stool with a cane back and arm panels to provide comfort.

Baers Furniture Oyster Bay Bar Stool

In addition to considering where you use them, you should think about how you will use them. This will help inform your decision. If they will mostly be used in the kitchen, select stain-resistant upholstery or wood. The Oyster Bay Merrick Swivel Bar Stool by Lexington Furniture features a high back and swivel seat that gives you mobility and comfort. It is perfect for a high table, counter, or bar.

Below are some styles to consider:
  • Sophisticated coastal – refined yet casual living that references the coast
  • European Grandeur – Understated elegance and sophistication featuring modern interpretation
  • California Mediterranean – a fresh look at the laid-back lifestyle
  • Hollywood Regency – chic and glamorous updated classic
It’s perfectly fine to mix and match styles. Metal stools will add interest to a bar or kitchen that is predominantly wood. And a wooden bar stool can add a hint of nature to a modern, high gloss kitchen or bar.

The Evolution of Tommy Bahama Home Furniture

Tommy Bahama Home furniture is known for its sophisticated interpretation of inspired island living. And for many, its design sensibility is the epitome of Florida style. The brand makes experiencing the casual comfort of island living as easy as entering your own home. It evokes a sense of intrigue and romance by fusing eclectic design elements, exotic natural materials, and rich finishes.

Tommy Bahama is quite likely the only brand whose name instantly evokes a place and lifestyle. They may also be the only brand whose mission is simply to inspire the world to relax. The furniture line is well represented at Baer’s Furniture, who with 16 locations is unequivocally the Florida Headquarters for Tommy Bahama Home as well as being the world’s largest dealer of this furniture.

Tommy Bahama’s Florida Focus

There are many ways that Tommy Bahama Home furnishings pair well with the Sunshine state. It is a brand with design sensibilities as varied as the state itself. Within Florida, you have the distinct design styles of South Beach, the Gulf Coast, and North Coast – each with their own individual vibe that shares an overarching theme: a lifestyle that is a little more casual, a little more relaxed, and a little more laid back. And Tommy Bahama Home has different collections that accommodate all these things.

Tropical Highlights

Demographics have played a large role in the evolution of Florida’s design style. The days of pink flamingos and aqua hues are long gone. Florida’s modern design, as expressed in Tommy Bahama’s style, evokes a classic tropical beauty that is completely fresh and modern.

Of course, this type of evolution doesn’t happen overnight. It used to be that you would cover an entire sofa in coral, while now that color is used more mindfully as a nod to its origins in Florida design, but without overwhelming. You’ll find it in piping, throw pillows, or area rugs. Mindfully applied, the bright, Florida colors work well with the British Colonial and Pan-Asian influences found in Tommy Bahama’s designs.

The Ocean Club and Island Fusion lines feature simple but sleek Asian influences that are both timeless and ultra-modern. The hardwood finishes evoke Polynesian tropical forests, but the clean lines and shapes feel fresh and new. Many people opt to furnish their entire home in Tommy Bahama. Their versatile designs make this possible.

Constantly-Evolving Design

The designs change and evolve as often as Florida itself. Tropical design may seem to go in and out of style, but it never goes away completely. Instead, it is reimagined to remain timeless and relevant. Good design is good design and transcends the trends.

To find the widest selection of Tommy Bahama Home designs, from the many furniture collections to tropical inspired accessories, visit the Baer’s Furniture showroom near you.

Create a Coastal Style Living Room with Broyhill Furniture

Contemporary coastal is a fun and fresh design style that brings a casually relaxed vibe into your home. Reflecting the bright, beautiful, and energizing aura of beach life, coastal style is all about creating a cheery atmosphere indoors. But that doesn’t mean that you should overload your living room with starfish, glass floats, shells, and other pieces of nautica in your décor. It’s best to choose a color palette and build from there. There are many interpretations and reimaginings of coastal décor, but here are five color palettes that can give your home some coastal flair.

Coral

When imagining a coastal home, light pastel blues and greens might first come to mind. But have you ever considered coral? Bright and cheerful, this is a fun and unusual color to find in a coastal living room. It creates a playful, tropical look that is hard to resist. If you are not sure, try using it on small accents such as vases, pillows, and wall art.

If you want to go bold, try bright coral on a sofa or chair. The Emily Casual Style Sofa in coral by Broyhill makes a relaxing and stylish addition to your coastal style living room. It is the perfect place to relax, watch television, or read a book. The gently rolled arms and skirt covered base fit perfectly in the coastal décor.

Navy Blue

It’s called navy blue for a reason. Bold navy blue is one of the most popular colors to use in coastal décor. Navy blue’s dark shades give a more masculine feel to a coastal-inspired room. But don’t be afraid of this color: a dark blue sofa or chair are great options for your living room. Pair it with other shades of blue, a cool white, or even coral to add a little energy to the space.

Pastel Blue

The traditional pastel shades found in coastal décor, such as soft powder blue, create a comfortable and welcoming feel in your living room. Pastel blue goes well with creamy whites and distressed wood. It is also a great primary wall color that will make your space seem bright and open.

Sandy Beige

Neutrals tend to be overlooked in coastal décor, but they can create a simple, relaxed atmosphere. Mix sandy white and beige with washed out blues and woody browns. As with any neutral space, it is important to play up texture for interest. You can do this with accessories such as shells, driftwood, and woven rugs.

Furniture pieces in the Emily Collection from Broyhill Furniture come in many custom upholstery options such as coral, navy, and beige that are perfect for coastal living room décor. Visit the Baer’s Furniture showroom near you to find out about all the options.

What’s Your Style: Casual and Comfortable with Broyhill Furniture

Do you long for casual décor that is comfortable, homey, warm, and inviting? Who doesn’t want to feel comfortable in their own house? Homes that exude casual comfort are perfect for those who fully embrace the Florida lifestyle of sunshine, beaches, and casual entertaining.

The furniture is the most important element for setting the comfort factor in your home. Choosing plush, upholstered furniture sets the comfortable, casual, cozy mood for your home. Casual rooms have simple details, restful horizontal lines, soft upholstery, textured elements in accessories and fabrics, and low-luster surfaces. The details are simple and the elements are softly curved or rectangular. The Emily Collection by Broyhill offers a classic, casual look that blends in with any existing décor. It gives you a homey feel while maintaining a traditional feel in the space.

Elements of Casual, Comfortable Style with Broyhill Furniture

  •          Soft, comfortable upholstered furniture pieces
  •          Textured fabrics rather than shiny, with interesting weaves and natural fibers such as cotton or linen, or a new synthetic weave with a natural look and more durability
  •          Accents on upholstered pieces such as pleats, ruffles, buttons, or cording in contrasting colors
  •          Long, large, horizontal furniture and chunky tables to create a restful look
  •          Wicker, rattan, or iron accessories as well as antiques easily fit casual style decorating

Choose a soft, inviting color scheme: fabrics, textiles, and colors in soft hues. And don’t be afraid to add a touch of whimsy. Use some old wooden candlesticks, stack pieces of old luggage, or old chest for a coffee table.

Creating a comfortable living space is about adding layers and conversational seating to build a room that is both visually stimulating and functional. It should tease the eye in a manner that feels fun and edgy while also giving in to your need to curl up casually in a chair and read or watch a movie.

Sneaky Storage: Furniture Pieces Designed to Reduce Clutter

Everyone accumulates stuff. But you know it’s bad when your stuff starts to pile up in your living areas. Wouldn’t it be nice to have some place to stow all that stuff? Professional organizers will tell you to begin by purging, and while that is not necessarily a bad idea, you may still end up with more than you realize and need a place to store your things that don’t take over you whole room. Here are a few ideas to help you keep your stuff out sight, out of mind.

Storage Ottoman

A storage ottoman can give you hidden storage as well as additional seating. A hollow storage ottoman or bench gives you an instant hiding place for all your living room clutter. You can store toys, games, blogs, pillows, blankets, the list goes on and on. The one above serves as a coffee table when needed, provides comfortable seating in a pinch, and opens up to allow storage that keeps your living room clutter out of site. You can’t get much more versatile than that.

Inside of Doors

The inside of cabinet or closet doors are often underutilized storage space. They can give you additional storage space in a bathroom, bedroom or kitchen. Hang a shoe hanger on the inside of your closet door to help keep small items handy. Socks, scarves, and even shoes will fit perfectly in the little pockets. You can also use the same type of hanger in the bathroom to keep cotton balls, swabs, hair ties, and makeup more organized. Sturdy wire shelving can be installed to the inside a kitchen cabinet door to store heavier items such as the lids for pots and pans.

Ledge Picture Shelves

Used to display photos or pictures, ledge shelves can also be used for storage. Try mounting one beneath your upper cabinets to store salt, pepper, and any other spices you use regularly while cooking. Or put one above your bathroom sink for toiletries such as hair accessories, toothbrushes, and more.

Rolling Drawers

A shallow drawer that you can slide under the bed or couch will give you some extra storage space in your bedroom or living room. You can use one to store extra sheets, blankets, and clothing in the bedroom and books, magazines, toys or games in the living room.

Sandcastle Inspired Whimsy from Hooker Furniture

Coastal style can be as individual as its location. Coastal style works best when it subtly sets a mood rather than overwhelming you with beachiness. Yes, beachside element are appropriate, but you don’t have to pick up every shell, piece of driftwood, or sand dollar and drag it into your home. Instead, you want to create an easy, carefree vibe that evokes boating, beaches, and sand castles. You want the look to be whimsical not overdone.

In the Sandcastle Collection from Hooker Furniture that’s exactly what you’ll find. This is a collection filled with casual, coastal charm – a collection that has its feet in the sand of the Florida shore. The American design elements and classic traditional forms – floral motif hardware and spindle legs – give the collection a soft, vintage appeal.
baers furniture classic yellow bedroom
Light may be one of the most important, yet often overlooked elements of coastal style. But think about it. When was the last time you walked into a beach house and the space felt cramped and dim? It’s more likely that the space felt light, bright, and breezy. That’s only one reason why white is the main color in coastal interiors: it amplifies and spreads light. That’s also one of the reasons why coastal style is perfect for Florida homes: Florida is known for having plenty of sunlight.

In a coastal interior, the line between indoors and outdoors can be hard to find. Windows, glass doors, and skylight let the sunshine in. The bright, white bedroom furniture above and sunny yellow walls highlight the sunny feel to the room and is a great way to create the illusion of sunlight if your room doesn’t have many windows.

For a modern take on coastal casual style, add a few accents that will spread the light even further. Hang a mirror opposite a window or try a glass-topped table in the breakfast nook to increase the room’s sunny appeal. Just a few accents, though, you don’t want the room to lose its cozy, comfy ambience.

One way to ensure the space stays casual and comfortable is to use simple fabrics – ones that are unassuming and make you want to put your feet up. Pure white is always a good choice for this décor, but soft pastels or stripes also work. This is also where you can use some subtle nautical touches with throw pillows, a side chair, or prints on the wall.
baers furniture whimsical dining room
Done right, white rooms are stunning in their simplicity. But if you like a touch of color, layer creams, beiges, and taupes to reflect sandy beaches. However, you don’t have to eliminate color completely. Try painting an accent wall navy blue and bring in a bright, coral area rug. The traditional distressed dining room furniture lets you play with color on the walls and area rug. If your room has plenty of windows, you’ll still achieve a light, airy feel in the space. However, keep it consistent, too many differing color schemes in different rooms will give your home too many personalities.

Using the Sandcastle collection from Hooker Furniture as the foundation of your coastal décor will give you a head start. Its pieces are undeniably charming and create a perfectly relaxed feel in any room, from dining room to bedroom to breakfast nook. They provide the perfect blend of coastal and cottage styles with an effortless elegance and casual grace.

You may be intimidated by the process of choosing an interior designer or you may worry about the cost. As part of their commitment to enhanced customer experience, Baer’s Furniture offers a complimentary interior design service to their customers.

Working with an interior design professional can pay dividends tenfold since you will get not just beautiful, but lasting results. You may be worried that an interior designer will take over the project and you won’t see your personality or vision in your home. Nothing could be further from the truth. An interior designer can help you make your dream home a reality.

Below are 6 reasons why you should take advantage of Baer’s complimentary interior design service.

Specialized Knowledge

An interior design professional has specialized knowledge on how to take your vision and make it a reality. You can tell them what inspires you, what your vision is, and what you need in your home and they will help you realize that vision.

No Unpleasant Surprises

You probably have a picture in your head about how your home will look and feel. But you may not know how to get there. A Baer’s interior designer will help you every step of the way. In the end, you will have a home that meets or exceeds your expectations.

Time Savings

Designing or redecorating a home takes time and effort if you want to get it right. An interior designer can save you time by doing all the legwork for you. Your interior designer can pre-select items for your home, based on your preferences. So, instead of spending your time searching for furniture and accessories, you will only need to choose from what your design professional has found.

Details, Details, Details

Interior designers are by nature detail oriented. They examine every detail of the design. They take into consideration function and form as well as aesthetics. They may think of things such as lighting, accessories and other details that you haven’t considered.

They Work with Color

Many people keep their room neutral because they are worried about using too much color. An interior designer can find the right colors for your interior. You may be surprised at how they can put colors together to create the contrast that makes for a lively interior.

Accessories

There is more to design than choosing the right furniture. An interior designer can help you find the right accessories to put the finishing touches on your home. As a Baer’s design client, you can ask your personal designer to choose accessories, bring them out to your home, and place them for you. You decide which you wish to keep. Because they know your design style and preferences, they will be able to help you refresh your look with a few simple touches.

Once you are completely satisfied with the Baer’s Furniture complimentary design service, they will keep you up to date with new pieces and accessories that will work with your home’s interior. Get Versatile Seating with a Sectional Sofa from Broyhill Furniture

The sectional sofa has been an innovative, problem-solving piece since the early 1800s. These sofas were convenient options for awkward spaces such as narrow hallways and then, as now, were used to create versatile seating arrangements. In fact, many experts believe that end pieces of these older sectionals are often mistaken for corner chairs in antique shops.

Fast forward to the mid-20th century and sectional sofas again began rising in popularity. With modern rooms featuring open floor plans, the sectional has remained a popular option for versatile seating. The Ethan Transitional Sectional Sofa by Broyhill Furniture puts a contemporary spin on the sectional sofa while keeping the features that have made it an enduring favorite.

Choose the Right Sectional for Your Space

A sectional sofa can define the area of your room — it creates a multipurpose family gathering place with a casual vibe. A generously sized sectional sofa such the one pictured above gives your family room or living room all the seating options it needs. With its mix of transitional and modern elements, it feels both fresh and familiar, with a relaxed sophistication that fits the style of any room.

The key to choosing the right sectional for your space is research. The first decision you have to make is what kind and what size sectional you need. The measure twice, cut once rule applies here. You need to be sure of the dimensions of your room so that you get the right size. Because it is separate pieces by design, a sectional can be easier to move around, but no one wants to do it more than necessary. If you can, sketch out your seating arrangement, a simple line drawing will do. This will help you determine where you want to place the sectional and whether you want a left or right side—that is where you want the arm to be on your sectional. Then decide if you want recliners, a chaise, or sleeper option.

It’s Not Your Grandmother’s Sectional Sofa

When most people hear the term “sectional sofa”, the think of a huge L-shaped piece of furniture that dominates the living room. While this may be true of some sectionals, it does not really do the modern sectional justice. Because a sectional has many different pieces, it is a versatile, practical addition to large and small living rooms alike.

With so many styles and shapes to choose from, there is a sectional for almost every size room. To check out the variety of sectionals available, visit Baer’s Furniture Showroom today. Check out Baer's Furniture on Instagram.

Sofa Beds: A Shopper's Guide to Buying the Best for Your Guests

If you enjoy hosting for the holidays, sofa beds are a great way to provide guests with a place to sleep so that they don’t have to spend money on a nearby hotel. Sofa beds are a nice option if you have a smaller home, lack a spare bedroom, or if you prefer to have extra seating in a spare bedroom or office.

There are dozens of sofa beds on the market, so making a decision on which one to buy can be tough. Long gone is the tough and uncomfortable sofa bed of yesteryear, many sofa beds are now comfortable, quiet and cushiony.

Consider the following if you plan to buy a brand new sofa bed soon.

Style

Sofa beds come in a variety of styles, from a sofa sleeper to sleeper chair. A sofa sleeper is the most traditional and ideal choice as is acts a comfortable full-size sofa most of the time, and then a bed as needed. American Leather Comfort’s Sleeper Collection offers sizes ranging from cot size, to double cot, twin, full, queen, queen plus, and king. You’ll also need to decide on the style of the sleeper sofa.

The Makayla Queen Comfort Sleeper with Nailhead Trim offers style and functionality. The sofa has a traditional feel, while the nailhead trim provides a bit of edginess. The mattress extends to a full 80” and can comfortably sleep two.

If you’re looking for something that offers more seating as well as a place for guests to sleep, the Gina Queen Gel Foam Sleeper with Chaise features a pullout queen size bed with a comfy gel foam mattress for a luxurious sleeping experience.

Mattress Material

When purchasing a sleeper sofa, you want something that isn’t just comfortable to sit upon. Find a sofa with a high-quality, durable mattress. For many years, innerspring mattresses were the primary option available. However, memory foam and gel mattresses have become more popular than ever. American Leather Comfort’s Sleeper Collection provides buyers with a choice of Premier, Gel or Tempur-Pedic® mattress.

Budget

You will need to consider your budget when choosing the right sleeper sofa. Sleeper sofas can range anywhere from $800 to $5,000. Choose something within your budget, but remember that you want to provide guests with a comfortable place to sit and sleep.

Seasonal Throws, Pillows & Accessories to Enhance Fall Home Décor

Autumn in Florida does not necessarily bring to mind falling leaves, pumpkin patches, and harvest festivals. Still, for those who enjoy decorating their home as the seasons change, fall is a great time to break out all your seasonal favorites before the holiday rush begins.
Accessories are a great way to add a touch of fall into Florida living. Changing your décor for the season doesn’t have to mean a total home makeover, smaller accessories and accent pieces can make a big difference. When choosing your fall accessories, you’ll want to consider specific colors and prints.

Colors

When choosing fall décor, choose browns, reds, oranges and gold. Mossy greens are also a great option, especially when you want to use colors that will also blend in with your current Florida décor. The Surya pillow in mossy green also has beautiful flowers adorning the front. Off-white, cream and beige are great neutrals to pair with bold fall colors. The Teegan Throw Blanket features orange, brown and yellow, which would pair well with almost any couch or sofa.

Prints

Along with colors, you can also choose specific patterns that are synonymous with fall. Plaid is always popular during fall. Botanicals are also a great option and will work well any time of the year in Florida. Consider festive prints as well, such as maple leaves, ferns, and acorns. Animal prints are always in style and work well if you find them in popular fall colors. The Surya Pillow in zebra print is a great option for fall as it also ties in burnt orange, another standard fall color.

While throw pillows and blankets can quickly change a room into feeling more like fall, there are many other accessories that can transform your home. An accent rug can quickly change a room. In the dining room, use a table runner to create a beautiful tablescape. Smaller pieces like vases and decorative bowls can also be used to create a festival fall look.

While fall might be considered more of “late summer” in Florida, you can still incorporate fall décor into Florida living. Accessories can help give your home a fall feel without having to rake up leaves.

Tips on Living Room Design with Broyhill Furniture

These days, the living room fills numerous roles, which can make decorating it a challenge. For some, it is a formal room reserved solely for entertaining while others use it as a casual room for activities such as watching TV, movies, or reading. Regardless of the purpose of your living room, it will most likely need seating, accent tables, bookshelves or media storage, and many other pieces of furniture. Below are some guidelines for creating an inviting and comfortable space to gather family and friends that will make your living room the best place in your home.

Set the Living Room Mood with Color

The color you choose will have a big impact on the atmosphere in your room. Colors can relax or energize, depending on their intensity, saturation, coolness or warmth. The Emily Casual Style Sofa by Broyhill is a relaxing addition to your living room. It provides the perfect place to relax at the end of trying, stressful day. The back cushions, fitted with multiple compartments, keep the fiber evenly distributed and anchor them in one place so that you don’t have to constantly rearrange them or return them to their proper places. The individually wrapped coils create a place where you can sit for hours in soft comfort.

Ceiling and Walls

Since the living room is traditionally a public space, the walls usually get a more formal treatment than other rooms in the house. To make your living room welcoming, choose a color or treatment for the wall that reflects your personality and style. You can add a textured treatment to the ceiling to add depth, and it doesn’t have to be 60’s popcorn. Try a swirl pattern or ripple pattern, or even faux or real ceiling tiles. Crown moulding adds a finishing touch.

Comfortable and Stylish Flooring

Always keep in mind that the living room is a public space, so select floor coverings that offer comfort as well as create a design statement. Vibrant wall-to-wall carpet can set the foundation for a bold mix of florals and stripes, while soft neutral flooring highlight art or furniture. Hardwood floors with area rugs are popular choices as well as ceramic, stone, or marble tile that can be warmed up with an area rug.

Where’s Your Focus

A focal point will anchor the room and help draw you into the space. The TV is almost always the real center of attention. In addition, an eye-catching piece of art or glorious view are also great focal points for a room.

Make Room for Conversation

Since your living room is a gathering space, make sure the furniture arrangement promotes conversation and interaction among its occupants. Pull couches and loveseats away from the walls and position them so that they face each other. If your living room is large enough, you can divide it into two conversational areas to create an intimate and comfortable atmosphere. Chairs and ottomans can be used to expand the circle while maintaining the intimacy.

Essential Furniture Pieces Every Home Needs

Beautiful rooms don’t just happen, they are built by layering smaller furnishings and accessories around carefully chosen classic, versatile pieces. The foundational pieces you select now will mean a more cohesive home design and fewer snags and regrets in the future. Knowing how to pick the five foundational pieces will keep your home looking stylish and put together for years to come.

The Armchair

Everyone needs a great armchair. When choosing an armchair, comfort is the most important feature. It makes sense to choose neutral upholstery since this is a piece you’ll probably take with you as you move. However, classic red never goes out of style and can add some welcome color in your space. Classic English roll-arm style is great for curling up with a good book or watching TV. It is a style that will ground any room you use it in. However, if modern or industrial is your thing, there are plenty of comfortable ones to choose from.

The Sofa

Since a sofa is one of the largest purchases for your home, not to mention the focal point of your living room or family room, you might want to play it safe. You can always change the look of the room with accessories, pillows, area rugs, and throws. A classic shape in a neutral color will be the most versatile. Then you can choose between loose cushions or tight back. Loose cushions give your room a casual vibe while tight black is a little more formal. Or you could choose leather, it’s kid-friendly, easy to clean, gets better with age, and never goes out of style.

The Dining Table

A beautifully weathered farmhouse table will always be in style. Or you may prefer a minimalist metal table. If you entertain a lot, be sure to get a table that has leaves so you can extend it when needed. If you live in a condo or have a small dining room, go for a round table, it can easily fit in tight spaces with room for chairs.

The Bed

An upholstered headboard in an unusual shape adds an aura of elegance to your bedroom and is perfect if you like to read in bed. This is where you rest and relax, so be sure to choose a bed that creates the mood you want. Or look for a bed that fuses eclectic design, exotic materials, and rich finishes for a new take on traditional style. More importantly, be sure to choose a mattress that gives you the right support – getting a good night’s sleep will change how you walk through your day.

Hidden Storage

Who doesn’t need more storage? A beautiful chest or dresser will be at home anywhere – tucked into an entryway, living room or bedroom. They can even be used in a large bathroom if you are short on storage. If you like mid-century modern, look for a chest or sideboard. IF you want something fancier, look for a highly polished traditional piece to give your home that posh, decorator touch.

Coastal Style for Casual Living

If you love casual coastal style, you are in good company. This simple, unpretentious look is based on a few basic principles. A casual coastal style home is carefully planned and thought out, but never seems contrived, matchy-mathcy, stuffy, or formal. Below is a list of elements that you can use to create a casual, coastal style space in your home.

Color, Texture, and Pattern

Beginning with a plan of action will make the entire process go much more smoothly. And to begin to create your space, you need to choose your color palette. Generally, softer sea- and beach-inspired shades such as aqua, teal, navy blue, and greens with neutrals are used. Although usually softer shades are used more often than bold ones, but it’s your space, so choose what pleases you the most. Just keep in mind how the depth of intensity in a color can influence the mood in a space.

If you have a larger space that can accommodate a bolder look, use deeper shades on the walls. If you want a softer look, keep the walls and floors neutral and use patterns, textures, and colors on the accent pieces. The dining room above is very simple in terms of colors, but the patterns and textures of the accent pieces keep the look from becoming boring.

Flooring for Casual Coastal Style

Your flooring options are truly endless, so consider the purpose of the room when making your choices. Wood or wood laminates create warmth and are always a good choice. If you like carpet, choose one with a light texture or tight weave. You can always layer an area rug for depth and interest. In fact, area rugs are a good choice to pair with tile and wood floors to warm up the space. The style thought is easy, uncomplicated, simple living.

Furniture Selection

Furnishing your home is where the real fun begins. You can include painted or natural wood finishes, bamboo, wicker, iron, bamboo, or a mixture or all of these will work. The woven panel bed above demonstrates how the mix of textures and finishes works in this style. The look is not a formal one where everything is coordinated, so as your pieces “go” they don’t have to “match”. Painted furniture that shows some wear and tear also adds to appeal of casual coastal style. Upholstered pieces also go well and can give your rooms a casual, relaxed vibe.

Coastal Style Accessories

Accessories add the finishing touches to the design of your space and can truly give your home a unique look. This is where you can make the style personal by displaying your collections or artwork. Or, if you prefer a lighter touch, just use a few special pieces that are important to you. You can also use unexpected accents, such as the fun prints in the room above, to let the space reflect your personality.

Your interpretation of coastal style may turn out to be very different than any of the examples here. Hopefully, these tips can make it easier for you to get the style you want. Or, if you would like a design professional to help you achieve the look, take advantage of the free interior design service available at the Baer’s Showroom near you.

Foolproof Patio Design Ideas for Entertaining All Year Long

In Florida you can take advantage of the wonderful weather all year long.  This means you can use your patio every day of the year, if you wish. One of the best ways to make your patio warm and inviting, yet cool and chic, is to bring the indoors outside. Try any or all of the tips below to turn your patio into one of your favorite places to relax.

Create Atmosphere

Use candles to set the mood, just as you would in an indoor space. Candles, lanterns, or torches scattered around your yard and patio create an indoor atmosphere and intimacy. Glass cylinders make great candle holders, or you can put hurricane glass shades around your candles. If you have a fire pit, such as the Island Estate Lanai Fire Pit Set from Tommy Bahama, don’t be afraid to use it all year round. It features a service area with ample room and adds exotic appeal with its hexagonal weatherstone top. When entertaining, add a cocktail tray with glassware, mixers, and garnishes. This will also add to the indoor vibe of your outdoor space.

Hang Curtains

Curtains add functionality and aesthetic appeal to your patio or porch. Traditionally for interiors, curtains can help make an outdoor space feel intimate and cozy. In addition to adding a decorative touch to the space, they create shade on the sunniest of Florida days, shelter guests from windy weather, and provide intimacy during social gatherings.

The Right Furniture

Increasingly you can find outdoor furniture that looks like indoor furniture. Instead of uncomfortable metal sofas, you can opt for outdoor furniture with soft, comfortable cushions and sturdy construction that can withstand the elements all year round. Consider using something that looks like it would be at home in your living room or den. Upholstered in Sunbrella Performance Outdoor Fabric, the Island Estate Lanai Scatterback Sofa by Tommy Bahama offers comfort and style as well as durability.

Textiles

Just as you carefully choose textiles for your indoor furniture, you should be choosy about what you put in your outdoor room. The right textiles will help you recreate the comfort and warmth of an indoor space. Above, the five cushions that make up the back of the sofa look like indoor pillows, and so really solidify the indoor look you are going for.

Finishing Touches

Once you have your foundation, add some finishing touches. Accessorize, just as you would any room. An area rug can pull the space together, a chandelier can add elegance, and flowers add a little freshness. Depending on how the space will be used, you can even add a TV.

Home Design that Maximizes Your Living Room Space with Natuzzi Editions

Every home needs more space, regardless of how large or how small. Have you ever noticed that the family room or living room is usually the messiest room in the house? These rooms are high traffic areas, with family watching TV, friend dropping over, and you lounging on the sofa to read or watch the game. If you’ve been wondering how to create more space to make your home more feel more welcoming and spacious, below are a few tips on how to style the a room with leather furniture from Natuzzi Editions that might give you inspiration.

Let Your Room Breathe

Your living room needs space to breathe, so place the couch a few inches away from the wall to make your room seem more spacious. Use multifunctional furniture such as ottomans with storage and coffee tables with open shelving or drawers. This will give you space when your busiest f room is full of people. Also consider pieces that can be used as stealth seating for entertaining such as stools, ottomans, and sturdy side tables. An ottoman can be used as either a coffee table or extra seating.

Seating Options

Consider size and depth when choosing a couch, such as the white leather sofa from Natuzzi Editions. It provides comfortable seating that will complement almost any décor. The box seat cushions give your family and friends durable support. If you have the space, longer sofas can also provide additional seating, but are best used in a floating space plan where two identical couches are positioned across from each other in the center of a room. They then need to be balanced with a long coffee table.

Benches can also serve dual functions in your home décor. Try buying two benches that coordinate with the design of your living room, and place one or both at the foot of beds in your home. Then when additional seating is needed, you can easily move the benches into the living room and you will still have a cohesive looking space instead of a mishmash of piece pulled from the garage or back porch.

Shelving

Try adding shelving on the wall behind the sofa, either built-ins or matching book cases. Here you can display books, art, and collectables in a way that shows your style. It keeps table tops clutter free and provides a home for all the items you wish to show off.
